Length of Training: 4 Days it all depends on you.

The cost of Training is $1,000.00 per person.

What you’re expected to bring:

a. Clothes that can get dirty.

b. The willingness to learn and the willingness to listen.

c. You must lift at least 30 pounds and have a strong stomach.

d. Use a pencil, paper for notes, or a camera so you can document the process.

Lunch and dinner will be provided every day.

Class is limited to 5 students per 4 days.

1. What to look for when it comes to hides

2. How to prep a hide before you work it

3. How to scrape a hide

4. How to brain a hide and where to obtain brains/equipment

5. How to wash out a hide and what to look for in the hide

6. How to twist a hide and get all the water out

7. How to prep a hide for stretching

8. How to prepare and cook the brains and what to look for

9. How to combine the brains

10. How to know if the hide needs to be re-brained? This process usually happens 3 times

11. How to prep a hide for smoking

12. How to smoke hide and what to look for after the hide is smoked.

13. What you need to do after the hide is smoked

Tanning a hide takes minimal stamina but a lot of dedication. Each hide is different, just as each animal is different.

After you learn how to tan a deer hide, you can do any animal you choose.

I have been tanning hides for many years and have never seen anyone do it the same way. After you learn, you will create the best way for you. The teaching I am giving you is how I have taught myself to do it, it is not the way of any certain tribe or individual.

Brain tanning hides is a lost tradition. Throughout history, every tribe has used tanned hides in one way or another.

This workshop aims to give willing individuals lessons/teachings on the art of brain tanning so that they can go back to their homelands and share with others, keeping the traditions alive.
